As I reflect on 2019 ,I am amazed ,very proud and so thankful to our Fair  Association ,our Cocke County community ,our family and friends for what we accomplished this year! The New Year had barely begun when the first of two floods covered our Fairgrounds completely! It wasn’t until the second flood retreated that we actually could tell the extent of the damage done to our grounds and facilities, and when it did, we were in shock…the entire area was covered in debris, our bridge on to the fairgrounds was badly damaged that it wasn’t safe to drive on, our large concession stand lost most of it’s appliances, the livestock barns were filled with debris…was this even fixable? It was ! Through many prayers and incredible support shown to our Association by so many people who donated time, work, financial support, literally blood sweat & Tears,to get the Cocke County Fairgrounds ready for action.

Monther Nature wasn’t quite done with us yet though….she saw fit to pour rain down on our Opening Night’s events at the Fair, our Fairest of the Fair Pageant was quickly moved to a local church and we closed the fairgrounds…. Tuesday morning , Senior Citizens Breakfast, still raining, but we were ready with hot coffee and breakfast,we monitored the water rising in the creek and made the decision to cut the program short, but our guests had fun and we got them off safely. Our Midway was scheduled to open that night and as the rain subsided mid-day ,they got back to work and finally we were to operate as a fully  functioning County Fair.

Challenges….yes but when taken one step at a time people who share the heritage and love of the County Fairs, they can be conquered! One step at a time, one day at a time people helping people … that’s how life should be!
